What is the Intention of the CSU-AAUP Contract?

True or False? The intention of the CSU-AAUP Collective Bargaining Agreement (Contract) is to ensure that faculty members are paid more and have better benefits than employees in private industry.

False. The Contract is primarily about preserving quality education at the Connecticut State Universities.  The Preamble states explicitly that it is intended “to promote the quality and effectiveness of education … and to maintain high standards of academic excellence.”  It also is intended to support “continual improvement in Connecticut State University.”  The Contract and CSU-AAUP do work to ensure adequate pay and benefits, as well as good working conditions, shared governance, and fair treatment, because all of these things are essential to achieve the quality education and academic excellence that is the overall goal.
